Gateway to the liberation cycle route | Liberation Route Brabant

This 47 kilometer long cycle route takes you through the area around Bergeijk, where the British scouts were the first to arrive on Dutch territory. In the run-up to Operation Market Garden, these scouts almost managed to reach the Dommel River. There are countless stories of courage and struggle in the Kempen region. The early arrival of the British brought hope, but there were still many challenges to overcome before liberation was achieved. The locations of crashed planes and the stories about the difficult passage of British tanks testify to this turbulent period.

The Liberation Route Brabant tells the story of the liberation, but also shows what the Second World War meant for ordinary Brabant residents. Eight cycling routes, spread across North Brabant, lead you past Brabant Remembert stories, listening columns of the Liberation Route Europe, monuments and museums, which together make visible the impact of the war on North Brabant.
