Cross the German border from Winterswijk

Cross-border nature reserves
From the starting point of the route you set course towards Winterswijk. You will pass De Olliemölle. This double water mill was restored in 2014 and today it houses apartments on both sides of the stream. This mill complex is one of the most famous and most photographed places around Winterswijk. You then cycle through the small-scale landscape to the German border. Just across the German border you cycle through the town of Oeding and through the Burlo-Vardingholter Venn und Entenschlatt, a raised moor area of approximately 100 hectares with growing raised moors, peat lakes and moist heaths. At the edges of the peat bogs, you cycle through grassland and moist forests with oaks and birches.

Restaurant Berenschots Watermill
The start and end point of this route is located a little south of Winterswijk at the Restaurant Berenschots Watermolen. Settle down in this restaurant on the edge of the Knownelle nature reserve and take a breather from your trip. You can go here for a cup of coffee, lunch or a delicious dinner.

Taste history
You can not only enjoy good food in the Berenschot\\\'s Water Mill, but also'taste\\' history. This water mill was built in the seventeenth century on the Boven Slinge as part of the Plekenpol manor. From 1960 to 1984, the mill was shut down due to a major flood. After that, the mill was extensively restored and today the mill is ready to grind again.
