Get a breath of fresh air on Schouwen-Duiveland

On Schouwen-Duiveland you can enjoy Zeeland views and cultural history. You cycle through vast polders and along the banks of the Grevelingenmeer and the Oosterschelde. Ideal for a breath of fresh air.

Eastern Scheldt
Schouwen-Duiveland once consisted of the islands of Schouwen, Duiveland, Dreischor and Bommenede. Thanks to nature and man, they have grown together. In the open polders you can enjoy the silence and the birds or hares that reside in the meadows. On the banks of the Oosterschelde you can take all the time for a picnic. Or just look out over the water, a nice moment to clear your head.

Fortified town of Zierikzee
The route ends in Zierikzee. A cozy, but certainly also beautiful town. Since 1971, Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape. There are no less than 568 monuments, so take plenty of time to experience the unique historical atmosphere here. The most famous building is the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren from 1506, which bears a striking resemblance to the Sint-Romboutstoren in Mechelen.

Zeeland windmills

During your route you will see several characteristic churches and mansions. You will also pass three Zeeland flour mills. De Korenbloem dates from 1873. De Lelie is a striking white windmill from 1868 that adorns the landscape near Elkerzee.'t Hert is the oldest windmill on your route, it was built in 1748. On top of this mill is a weather vane in the shape of a deer.
