Description
The Fryske Marren are not only popular with water sports enthusiasts. Hikers and cyclists are also more than happy to explore the area. The meadows, head-neck farms, reed-covered banks and picturesque villages together form a beautiful landscape. You start the route at Eethuis de Balk. After a fresh cup of coffee and a pastry you are ready to leave. Just outside the village you cycle along the banks of the Slotermeer towards Woudsend (Frisian: Wâldsein). Another beautiful village surrounded by water and pasture in Southwest Friesland. It is wonderful to cycle through the polders on low-traffic roads. Via the Grutte Brecken you arrive in Wijckel. The tower of the beautiful church here dates from the fifteenth century. After about forty kilometers you arrive back in Balk. Time to relax!
