day 6 DG 23B Huizen-Utrecht, LF Waterline route

START: From Knpt 77 in a northerly direction to Knpt 78. You cycle to Naarden.

Follow the Junction Route. From Naarden you also follow the LF-Waterlinie route.

The New Dutch Waterline has left an enormous mark on the landscape. It is the largest national monument in the Netherlands and will probably be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021. Today you will cycle past part of this special fortification!

In the 17th century, the Dutch Waterline was constructed to protect Holland against the French. The line ran from the Zuiderzee to the Lek.

The city of Utrecht was excluded because it was already in the hands of the French. In 1815, this Old Dutch Waterline was replaced by the New, which took Utrecht with it.

This way, the western Netherlands was protected against enemy attacks.

Before you arrive in Utrecht today, you will be introduced to Fort Nieuwersluis (At Knpt 2, on the other side of the Vecht), Fort Kijkuit (Knpt3), Fort at Tienhoven (Knpt 85), Fort aan de Klop (Knpt 72) and Fort Blauwkapel (Knpt 90).

Don't forget to enjoy the beautiful Loosdrechtse and Ankeveense Plassen.

FINISH: After Fort Blauwkapel (Knpt 90) the LF Waterline route continues.

You drop off here to cycle to your ship. Follow the Junction Route.

After junction 52 continue to the right. Junction 23. JUST BEFORE the cycle path bends to the left to go to the bridge (Kennedylaan), keep diagonally to the right.

You arrive at the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal.

Turn LEFT and cycle along Rooseveltlaan until you reach the Dutch Grace.
