A visit to the Grevelingendam

This route takes you across Goeree-Overflakkee. A route to recharge the proverbial battery as you cycle through the wide polder landscape and along the Grevelingenmeer.

Swallow from Flakkee
The first kilometers you cycle along the canal that connects the Haringvliet with the port of Dirksland. It is wonderful to cycle here with beautiful views of the polder landscape. In Dirksland you pass the Eendracht, a corn mill dating from 1846. A little later you cycle along the Slikken van Flakkee: a large piece of dry ground where there is still shallow water here and there. What a special area!

Grevelingendam
At the Scharloodijk in Herkingen you will see two beautiful monuments: the seventeenth-century Visbank and the village church from 1788. Cycling along the Grevelingenmeer you will see the Grevelingendam, which was completed in 1965. On this dam you can enjoy a terrace at Restaurant PUURR by Rich: a unique location! Don't linger too long, because a nice bit of cycling through the polders awaits you. An ideal way to get some fresh air!
