Walking through the Utrecht polder

This route takes you from the woods at the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug into the Utrecht polder. You walk on the famous Bert Bospad, among other things. You will also pass through some picturesque places.

Bert Bospad
From Egelshoek you can only reach Westhoek on foot. And how. You walk on the Bert Bospad, one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Groene Hart. This path runs right through the Westbroekse Zodden, a mosaic of quaking peat, open water and marshy meadows. In the spring you can see swans busy building their nest in the reeds. Just before Westhoek you walk through a swamp forest. Waterproof shoes are a must!

Beautiful Maartensdijk
In Westbroek, which enjoys a protected village view, you can see monumental farms and the fifteenth-century village church. You will also pass De Kraai, a flour mill from 1880. In beautiful Maartensdijk, you will also see several old farms and country houses on Dorpsweg, such as Kasteel Eyckenstein from the seventeenth century. The Rustenhoven country estate dates from the eighteenth century.
