There are some beautiful nature reserves around Helmond. First you drive through the woods of the Brouwhuissche Heide. Scots pines and junipers mainly grow on the dry subsoil. From the hamlet of Kloostereind you cross the Zuid-Willemsvaart, a little later you drive through the Groot Goor. This nature reserve consists of reed beds, meadows, an apple orchard and an old forest. The route then takes you through the Mierlo-Hout district, a former village. You pass through Stadspark De Warande, a former nature and hunting area. The former inhabitants of Helmond Castle are buried here on an island, surrounded by old beeches and an imposing weeping willow. On the other side of the canal you drive through the Bundertjes, a nature reserve with moist forests and rugged grasslands. You drive through the Bakelse Bos to the Palingpaviljoen Rijpelaal.
