Walking through the Loonse and Drunense Dunes

Be enchanted by the beauty of the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. In this national park you will find extensive heathlands and quiet forests. And of course the famous drifting dunes to which this area owes its nickname: the Brabant Sahara.

Sea of sand At junction 28 you pass cafe-restaurant Bosch en Duin, a popular spot for a drink and a snack. A little further on you pass a sea of sand. The Loonse and Drunense Dunes form the largest area of living drifting sand in Europe. Feel free to walk in for a while to experience the desert feeling. The heathland on your left is there for a reason: this open plain gives the wind free rein to blow the sand.

Fragrant coniferous forests At junction 66 you can make a stop at the cozy cafe-restaurant De Roestelberg. Afterwards you can continue walking along the paths in the vast nature. You mainly walk between conifers such as fresh-smelling Douglas firs and maritime pines, although you also see oaks. It is so quiet in the forest that you almost forget how busy the outside world can be.
