The Antwerp Kempen is a region full of vast forests, heathlands, pleasant cities and numerous old villages. This route takes you through the towns of Meerhout and Balen. Along the way you explore the wooded surroundings of these towns.
Explore varied natural areas
The starting point of this cycling tour is in Meerhout. From here you cycle into the Grote Netewoud, a series of nature reserves along the river Grote Nete. This area consists of grasslands full of cheerful flowers, marshes, fens, heathlands, inland dunes and vast forests. Cycle through this beautiful varied nature reserve and enjoy all the splendor that nature has to offer. About halfway along the route you cycle into the village of Balen. Originally this village belonged to the Abbey of Corbie, but at some point it became an independent settlement. A little further along the route you cycle through the nature reserve De Rammelaars. This area is known for the many hares and rabbits that live there.

Finally, you will return to Meerhout. The start and end point of the route is at Brasserie"De Met\\\". Take a seat on the terrace at the cozy market square to rest and enjoy lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee.

After all that cycling, do you feel like enjoying a delicious regional product? Then take a trip to the Postel Abbey on your way home. This abbey is easy and quick to reach from Meerhout. At this abbey, you can buy artisanal abbey bread and abbey cheeses. Then you can think back at home to your fun day out in the Mol area and enjoy something delicious in the meantime.
