The Antwerp Kempen is a region full of vast forests, heathlands, charming towns and numerous old villages. This route takes you through the towns of Meerhout and Balen, among others. Along the way you explore the wooded area of these towns.
Explore varied nature reserves
The starting point of this cycle tour is in Meerhout. From here you cycle into the Grote Netewoud, a series of nature reserves along the Grote Nete river. This area consists of grasslands full of cheerful flowers, swamps, fens, heaths, inland dunes and vast forests. Cycle through this beautiful, varied nature reserve and enjoy all the beauty that nature has to offer. About halfway through the route you cycle into the village of Balen. This village originally belonged to Corbie Abbey, but at some point it became an independent settlement. A little further along the route you cycle through the De Rammelaars nature reserve. This area is known for the many hares and rabbits that live there.

Eventually you will return to Meerhout. The start and end point of the route is at Brasserie"De Met\\\". Take a seat on the terrace on the pleasant market square to rest and enjoy lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee.

After all that cycling, have you started craving a tasty regional product? Then take a trip to Postel Abbey on the way home. This abbey is easy and quick to reach from Meerhout. At this abbey you can get artisan abbey bread and abbey cheeses. Then you can think back at home about your fun day out in the Mol area and enjoy something tasty in the meantime.
