427616 We start this route on the bridge over the Boven Mark near Ulvenhout. The name Mark (border) refers to the time when the river formed the border between two parts of the county of Strijen, around the year 1000. We park the car in a parking lot a little further along the Galder-Breda road. A little further we enter the woods on natural sandy paths. We pass two lakes, where we are invited by a raised bench to eat a sandwich in the morning sun. As we sit for a moment, a large heron floats on the water in front of us to grab a fish. Continue through the woods to junction 18. Here we will have a look in Rijsbergen and drink a cup of coffee at the bakery, because there is little else open here. We continue through the Pannenhoef, originally a peat area. A heathland landscape developed on the sand layer, which was reclaimed from 1800 onwards (fields and forests). A grand house from 1818 also indicates the former presence of a peat bog. Don't forget to drink a nice cup of coffee with an Ankerturfske in Herberg in den Anker. You have to go get it yourself. This 17th century building also belonged to the Moeren. There are still rings on the outside wall to attach the horses. From here to Zundert, the birthplace of Vincent van Gogh. Here you can visit the birthplace, the reformed church where he was baptized and the grave of his 1 year older brother with the same name. Partly along the border you arrive in Meersel-Dreef and then head towards Galder. You can take a break at the Galder junction (Grand café). With a few bends we return to the beautiful cycle path along the Boven Mark and eventually arrive back at the bridge.
