Description

The Mergellandroute meanders right through South Limburg. The total cycling route is over 155 km, but you can also opt for one of the three day trips. This northern loop explores the area north of Valkenburg. Along the way you can immediately see how the route got its name: you pass marl quarries and several castles built with the marl blocks.

You will also discover the cycling town of Valkenburg aan de Geul with its many terraces and numerous attractions, such as the castle ruins, caves, an amusement park and a fairytale forest. The stately Chateau St. Gerlach and Kasteel Schaloen will also come on your (cycling) path. Just like the impressive Schimmert Water Tower.

Part of the route is flat, but occasionally you have to climb and descend quite a bit. The junction system makes it easy to find your way. You can park and start at the parking lot at the Par\\\'Course (Pr. Beatrixsingel 2) in Valkenburg. Here you can also easily rent a bicycle/scooter at Cycle Center or Scooterverhuur Limburg .

If you have any comments about the route, please report them to routepunt@visitzuidlimburg.nl .

In addition, Visit Zuid-Limburg also has a special map with the route and various highlights in the area.

A complete bicycle junction map with all South Limburg junctions in this region can easily be ordered via www.visitzuidlimburg.nl/webshop .
