Zutphen is excellent to explore on foot. Put on your walking shoes and experience the special atmosphere in this beautiful former Hanseatic city.Historic ZutphenZutphen has one of the best preserved historic city centers in the Netherlands. More than enough reason to walk around here. The route leads you through the old center, which enjoys a protected cityscape because of the many medieval, especially fourteenth-century houses. For example, you will pass the Broederenkerk, a monastery church from 1307. In the Broederenkerkstraat you will see some beautiful monuments, what a wonderfully historic street!TorenstadDue to the many towers, Zutphen is also called the Torenstad. At the Groenmarkt you can see, for example, the Wijnhuistoren, a belfry from 1642. Further on you will pass the fourteenth-century Berkelpoort, which was part of the city wall. A little later you walk past the Sint-Walburgiskerk, the oldest part of which dates back to the eleventh century! You walk the last part of the route along the beautiful IJssel river bank.
