Tour of Borkeld and Pothoek from Markelo

Your route starts at Herberg De Pot, on the outskirts of Markelo. Enjoy a cup of coffee at your leisure and then put on your walking shoes. Today you will take a beautiful tour through the nature of the Borkeld with forests, large heathlands, loam pits, fields, grasslands and even a piece of raised bog. The Friezenberg is the highest hill in this rolling landscape with a height of forty meters. You will also find prehistoric burial mounds in the area, which are proof that people already lived here 6,000 years ago. The loam pits in the area were created by loam extraction for making brick. You will also discover the farming landscape of the Pothoek, named after the Potbeek. Rolling fields, green meadows and authentic farmyards: it's a pleasure here!
