Description
Stage 8 of the Fietserspad is already the second last stage of the Fietserspad. This route takes you from Venlo to Montfort, right along the German border. Along the way you will get to know beautiful nature reserves, interesting sights and authentic Limburg pictures.
Hill up, hill down
Get on your bike in Venlo and set course for the German border. This route takes you for the most part along the border with our eastern neighbors. After about 9 kilometers you can take a break at Oelespot Restaurant if you want to relax with a cup of coffee. You then continue cycling past Belfeld and Reuver while riding up and down hills in this rolling landscape. Limburg is known for its hilly landscape for a reason.
Castle Splendor
On the way to Roermond you will pass two beautiful castles: Castle Hillenraad and Castle Zuidewijk. Especially the first castle is a true gem. A bit outside Roermond you can settle down at Farm Terrace and Camping het Spikkerdal, but you can also continue cycling to Montfort.
Watch your eyes
In the last part of the route you will pass one sight after another. How about Castle Freymersen, the Windmill of Verbeek or Huize Hoosden, for example? All these sights tell you something about the rich history of Limburg. Just outside Montfort is a place where archaeologists have buried Roman coins and a little further you will find Montfort Castle. In short, there is plenty to see on this route.
