Lakes
You can start this route at, for example, junction 11 (Parrega). Jet cycles through the Parregaastermeer and the Workumermeer to Workum. These traditional lakes were drained around 1880. If you look around you while cycling, you can see the difference in height, so you cycle over the bottom of the lake and you will come across the island of Breewar just before Workum. How beautiful! At the'old\\\' house of Jopie Huisman was the eel auction, where barges transported the tastiest fish to London. In Workum you can visit the Jopie Huisman museum. Via the nodes you pass an authentic mill and an organic cheese farm. Past junction 96 you can visit Hindeloopen. A city full of culture, its own language, its own painting and traditional costumes. In the harbor town is the Skating Museum and the Hidde Nijland Foundation that shows the culture. Hindeloopen is located on the old Zuiderzee. You continue the route again at junction 96 and cycle into beautiful Heidenskip. Known for the fierljep competitions, known by the book de Oerpolder. You slowly enter a lake area and cycle between the large Fluessen to the Sanmar and the Gaastmeer. Between nodes 33 and 32 you should definitely visit Sandfirden, ydillic as it is. Arriving in Oudega, it may be time to enjoy a terrace, ice cream, pizza or a cold drink, a wonderful water sports village, as Friesland knows it. Via Oudega you continue the route along the banks of the Oudegaaster Bokken, beautiful! Passing under the railway line you enter De Rijp, an agricultural and nature reserve, adjacent to the small village of Greonterp. Greonterp was Gerard van het Reve's base, he had his life there, wrote his books there. And then Blauwhuis, the tower looms up and shows the greatness of the Catholic community in this village. Not least designed by Architect Cuypers. Do you know him from Amsterdam Central Station? Across the narrow winding road, the old sea barrier dike; Hemdyk, you slowly come back to the Arkumerpolder. Diked around 1300. The only village in this Arkumerhem is the village of Dedgum. And you can stay there, sit quietly on a bench. And are you still puffed? Then walk over the old dikes around Dedgum. How beautiful is Friesland!! Have fun (-: © Holiday Southwest Friesland
