Horst aan de Maas is an agricultural municipality. Blueberries, strawberries, mushrooms and asparagus are grown. During this cycle tour you will pass several nurseries. Be sure to stop by and take a look at one of these companies! At Steyl you pass the monastery garden of Mission House St. Michael (a national monument) with a special monument: the Sacred Heart Hill. Well worth a visit!
On the way back you cycle past meadows with grazing cows, horses and sheep and via the Crayelheide to the Schadijk forests. A lovely forest with many conifers, peace and the smell of leaves in your nose. With a fen here and there, it is a true paradise for rabbits, hares, squirrels, foxes, badgers and deer. Birds such as the black woodpecker, woodlark, yellowhammer, nightjar, stonechat, buzzard, hawk, sparrowhawk, long-eared owl and tawny owl also occur here.
