Description

This walking tour shows you two faces of Groningen. In Beerta you experience the rich Groningen history. And in the village of Blauwestad you will meet a twentieth-century village that was named after the project to which it owes its existence.

Reiderwolde
On the east side of Blauwestad you walk through the Reiderwolde. This new nature reserve consists of a mosaic of forests, grasslands, fruit trees, swamps and ponds. In the southern part there is a brick-red lookout tower of about seven meters on one of the hills. From the top you have a beautiful view of the Oldambtmeer and some towns in the area, such as Finsterwolde.

Memory lane
In Beerta you walk through memory lane, so to speak. There are many monuments, especially on the Hoofdweg, such as stately buildings and Groningen mansions. Here you will also see the late Gothic St. Bartholomew's Church, which was originally built in 1506. The freestanding tower dates from 1806.
