This walking tour shows you two faces of Groningen. In Beerta you experience the rich history of Groningen, in Blauwestad you get to know a twentieth-century village. The name comes from the project to which the village owes its existence. On the east side of Blauwestad you walk through the Reiderwolde. This new nature reserve consists of a mosaic of forests, grasslands, fruit trees, marshes and ponds. In the southern part there is a stone-red lookout tower of about seven meters on one of the hills. From the top you have a beautiful view of the Oldambtmeer and several villages in the area, such as Finsterwolde. In Beerta you walk past many monuments, such as stately buildings and Groningen manor farms. You can also see the late Gothic St. Bartholomew's Church from 1506. The freestanding tower dates from 1806.
