Description
Get to know the nice places that are located around the Lek. Cycle through IJsselstein, Nieuwegein, Vianen and the green floodplains of the Lek. The town probably received city rights in 1310. You will find beautiful monumental houses that are worth seeing. Along the way you will encounter even more sights. For example, you cycle past Werk aan de Groeneweg, which was built between 1914-1918. It is part of the New Dutch Waterline and consists of concrete casemates. Pyramid-shaped bunkers were used as group shelters. Schalwijk Castle is a former castle and a knight's manor that was built around 1250. It is a mystery what happened to the castle, now it is one large open and green area.
