Walking from Brunssum to Schinveld

Red Beek-Heringsbosch nature reserve
You will find the starting point of this route on the outskirts of Brunssum. From here you can walk through the foothills of the Rode Beek-Heringsbosch nature reserve. This area consists of damp moors and hillside bogs and you may encounter a Scottish Highlander here and there. Relax in this area and take a deep breath to inhale the wonderful scent of nature. Directly on the nature reserve you will find the village of Schinveld. Here you can visit Het Schinvelderhuuske, a square farm that dates back to the 18th century for the most part. Another point of interest is Genhoes, which was built in 1622.

Brasserie Schuttershüske
The start and end point of this walking route is Brasserie Schuttershüske. Here you can settle down to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. Do you prefer to explore the area further instead of pausing? Then try route 124256 or route 124262.

Castle On Genhoes
For a long time, the wooden Vossenleen castle was the castle of Brunssum. In 1622, however, the Genhoes was built on the edge of Brunssum and the Vossenleen was demolished. The canals and ponds of the old castle were also filled in. Today, only one remaining wing remains. This wing used to make up less than a fifth of the castle complex. In 1930 the associated mansion was demolished as it had fallen into too much disrepair and so were many parts of the castle. Nevertheless, the castle is still worth a visit.
