Architect Tour

The ArchitekTour cycling route is sure to spark your enthusiasm for cycling! Along this route, architecture enthusiasts can always discover impressive buildings, special squares and historic city centers. Shorter routes are available along the river from Rheda-Wiedenbruck (Ems) and Gutersloh (Dalke).

From the starting point, the water castle Rheda, you are treated to a succession of Weser Renaissance and Westphalian Baroque. From here you cycle through the Flora-Westfalica-Park to Wiedenbruck, where artistically decorated half-timbered farmhouses dominate the picture. Life is bustling behind these beautiful facades: cozy cafes and restaurants invite you to relax. The route follows the Ems towards Rietberg, where you will discover a large number of lovingly restored half-timbered monuments. The historic town hall is considered one of the most beautiful in Westphalia. You then cycle past the Gartenschaupark Rietberg with the Klimapark to the parish church of St. Margareta in Neuenkirchen, the oldest parish in the former county of Rietberg. Finally, you reach the Benedictine abbey Varensell. From here the route continues to Gutersloh, along the rippling Olbach with the monumental Delker water mill. You cycle through Determeyer and in Spexard you get to know the oldest building in Gutersloh, a farmhouse from the 16th century. In the city center, at the"Alter Kirchplatz\\\", you can discover the historic architecture of the half-timbered ensemble around the Apostle Church. A visit to the City Museum and its unique museum cafe is definitely worth it. As you leave the city, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the riverside promenade of the Dalke and cycle on to Rheda, where you will discover the charm of modest Calvinist half-timbered houses. You will reach the starting point again in no time.
