Just a nice day out in an environment where you will find almost no habitation? Then walk this route on and around the Herikerberg near the Twentse Markelo.
Herikerberg
The Herikerberg is a hill of almost 47 meters high. From the top, but also from the flanks, you sometimes have beautiful views of the bocage landscape of Twente and the surrounding villages. The route leads you through a beautiful mosaic of sometimes ancient forests, meadows and fields. You can take a leisurely stroll here and occasionally grab a bench for a break or picnic. Or to enjoy the silence for a while.
Burial mounds
While walking you will see a monumental, former watchtower from 1890 in this area. It was built by order of Count Bentinck, the then resident of Weldam Castle, which is kilometers away. The tower now houses a home and studio. There are also a few prehistoric burial mounds in this nature reserve.
