The Koelbroek originated from an old Maas meander. In the nineteenth century, peat was still extracted here and plenty of firewood was collected. Fish such as pike and bream were caught in the water and sold on the Venlo market. Nowadays, the area has silted up. However, there is natural seepage water, so the path can be wet. You mainly walk through an alder swamp forest. In the southern part of this reserve you will see large buttercups, black currants and marsh marigolds. Boekend is a typical friendly Limburg church village in the low terrace of the Maas. After your walk, you can enjoy a delicious meal and relax at Hotel-Restaurant Maashof.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
