Tour of the South Holland polder

Your route starts at Pannenkoekenrestaurant Onder De Molen. This route takes you through the South Holland polder. You drive for many kilometers along the Hollandse IJssel, through unique nature reserves and through picturesque towns such as Gouderak, Moordrecht and Berkenwoude. Hitland is a varied nature reserve with various forests, bird-rich peat meadows, marshes and natural water. You cross the river to Krimpen aan den IJssel via the Algera Bridge. Here you have a beautiful view of the Hollandse IJssel Storm Surge Barrier, which was completed in 1958 as part of the Delta Works. This storm surge barrier is still closed several times a year. You also cycle through the water-rich forests above Krimpen aan de Lek and through the Loetbos, a forty-year-old forest on the river De Loet.
