You can take a brisk walk around the Nieuwkoopse Plassen. You will experience peace and the beauty of untouched nature. Moreover, there are beautiful historic windmills on your route.
The Meijepad
The Nieuwkoopse Plassen is a beautiful rugged nature reserve that consists of a mosaic of marshes, hay meadows, flowery meadows and reed fields. Walking here is a unique experience. A little later you walk onto the Meijepad that runs right through the Zuideinderplas. In the middle is a wooden bridge for shipping, it is a so-called quail. From afar you can already see the almost sixty meter high white water tower from 1932, which is popularly called Pietje Potlood.
Unique windmill four-course
You walk along the old-fashioned meandering river De Meije towards Zwammerdam. On the Oude Rijn you can see the Dikke Molen, a polder mill from 1674. A little further on you will pass the only working windmill in the world. You pass Molen 3, or the Bovenmolen, which dates from 1823.
