From the Wieden to historic Hasselt

Along the banks of the Vollenhovermeer, the Zwarte Meer and the Zwarte Water river you have beautiful views of the rippling water. You can also fully enjoy the reed fields and swamp forests in the Wieden. And of course the silence. However pristine this area may look, it has been shaped by peat extraction over the centuries. On the banks of the Beulakerwijde you see the Foeke, a tsjasker from 1968.

Over the centuries, this region has benefited fully from the many waterways, allowing beautiful towns such as Genemuiden, Zwartsluis and of course the Hanseatic city of Hasselt to develop. In addition to beautiful farms in the countryside, you will also see many historic buildings while cycling that bear witness to the wealth brought by trade over the water. At the end of your route you can relax at Camping de Blauwe Hand, a special and quiet place in the Weerribben-Wieden National Park.

Ronduite neighborhood
From the road that separates Beulakerwijde and Belterwijde, you have beautiful views over the water. This road, the Veneweg, has been running between the two lakes since 1775. It formed an important connecting road through the peat area between Meppel and Vollenhove. The hamlet of Ronduite is located on a peninsula in the middle of the two banks.
