The walk starts at the parking lot at the large roundabout, where you enter Gennep. From there you can't miss the locomotive, the monument to the railway (\\\"German Line\\\" or"Boxteler Bahn\\\"), which was in use here from 1873 to 1945.  ;
First walk in a westerly direction to the Maasbrug and follow the path on the right just before the bridge. Approx. 300 meters further you can turn left, to the quay on the Maas. Continue the walk and turn left onto the sandy path towards the Genneperhuis. There is not much left of it than an elevation in the landscape with some foundations, but the watchtower offers a nice panorama of the area. Also read the information about the history of this place from Roman times.
You can also visit the place where the river Niers flows into the Maas.
The walk then turns into the"boot path\\\" that takes you back to Gennep through the floodplains of the Niers.
The route continues a bit over the dike of the Niers (the fastest flowing river in the Netherlands, although it only crosses Dutch territory for about 6 km).
Then you end up in the center and on the Markt with the beautiful old town hall.
Finally, the walk takes you along the old city walls, after which the tour is complete.
