Would you like to take a bike ride through nature, but do you also like an urban environment? Then you've come to the right place with this cycling route in the Utrecht area. You cycle through the center of Utrecht and through nature reserves between Utrecht and Hilversum.
From Utrecht towards Hilversum
From the center of Utrecht you cycle in the direction of Maarssen. You will pass Mill Rijn en Zon along the way. This flour mill was built in 1913 in Utrecht. The mill has been completely restored, a true gem to see. From Maarssen you cycle along the Maarsseveense Plassen and the Loosdrechtse Plassen in the direction of Hilversum. The Loosdrechtse Plassen nature reserve is very popular among water sports enthusiasts, but you can also cycle there in peace and quiet. This area has been designated as a special protection zone for birds. So it shouldn't be any problem to spot birds here.
Persijn Estate
On this route you will pass the Persijn Estate, just outside the town of Maartensdijk. This estate dates from 1781. Originally this estate was laid out in the early landscape style, but a large part of the estate was renovated in the 19th century. Tree avenues were then created and exotic plants were planted. Nowadays there is an orthopedagogical center located on the estate.
