Katwijk for kids

There is often no greater pleasure for children than with a day at the beach. Enjoy a romp, build a sand castle and occasionally take a dip in the sea. Success guaranteed! But even if you are looking for a bit more spectacle, you can go to Katwijk. An afternoon of building rafts, learning to surf, banana boating or kiting? It's possible in Katwijk! And afterwards, you and your children are very welcome in the hospitable and child-friendly restaurants or beach pavilions for a delicious, accessible meal. So Katwijk is the ideal start and end point of this cycling tour.

Panbos
From Katwijk you cycle south, straight through the Berkheide dune area. Keep your eyes open, because if you're lucky you'll see bunnies jumping away. Or maybe even a fox or a deer! But on the coast you will not only find sand and dunes. The route also takes you past'De Pan van Persijn\\\', locally called'Panbos\\\'. This is an ideal walking and playing forest and definitely worth a stop. In the forest you will find a deer park and a duck pond and there is a nice discovery route for children. And what about the remains of the Atlantic Wall? Climbing is allowed!

Visiting playgrounds in Valkenburg
When you arrive in Valkenburg, you can give your children a lot of fun with a visit to a playground. Just along the route you will find the playground and petting zoo'Valkenburg\\\' between junctions 93 and 89. And at junction 89 you can decide to leave the route for a while and take a detour to the nice water playground'Dorpsweide\\\'. As long as you're not afraid of getting wet! The Dorpsweide is also a nice place for a picnic.

Climb the Lighthouse
On Katwijkse Boulevard you will find a beautiful playground in the dune opposite the lighthouse. Parents can enjoy a cup of coffee in the nearby restaurant. And don't forget to visit and climb the Lighthouse itself: at the top you can enjoy an impressive view over the North Sea!

Did you know that you will find many fun attractions for children in Katwijk and the surrounding area? Visit the Katwijk-Leiden Steam Train, have fun in Duinrell or get to know the whole of the Netherlands in one go in Madurodam. After a visit to the impressive Corpus you know everything about your own body and after you have been to Space Expo, space no longer has any secrets for you. But perhaps the most special thing is the skeleton of a real Tyrannosaurus rex in Naturalis!
