Cycling in the vicinity of the Vechtplassen

From the Ankeveensche Plassen to Naarden
The starting point of this route is in Ankeveen on the edge of the Ankeveensche Plassen. Park your car here and hop on your bike to explore this area. The Ankeveensche Plassen are part of the Vechtplassen. This peat landscape with narrow ditches with strips of land next to it was created by the excavation of peat. If you cycle here you can enjoy the wide views in this area and the many birds that come to the water. From here you cycle past various estates and along the Spanderswoud to Bussum. On the way you cycle through the fortified town of Naarden.

Admire the historic buildings and old city walls of Naarden. From Naarden you cycle through Bussum and through the green areas outside Hilversum. You then cycle along the Wijde Blik lake back to the starting point of the route.

Wide Look
This lake is the largest and the deepest of all Vechtplassen. Not only peat has been extracted here, but also sand, which is why the lake is so deep. In the vicinity of this lake you will find many birds that like to live in wetlands, such as the wild duck. In the lake you will find special plants such as the galigaan. Most plants cannot live in this nutrient-poor water, but this plant is doing fine here.
