Leusden, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 409995
Provided by: Groots Genieten
You will mainly walk on unpaved paths, so make sure you wear sturdy walking shoes. The history of Den Treek goes back to the fourteenth century. The country estate has been owned by the De Beaufort family since 1807. They still use Den Treek as a forestry estate. During your walk you will see species such as Scots pine, Douglas fir, larch, native oak and American oak. Halfway through your walk you will pass some monumental buildings, after which you walk back into the vast forest. Towards the end of your walk you will walk across the Hazenwater, a wet heathland plain. Thanks to good management, the original nature has been restored here, so that bell gentian and sundew grow again.
