Historic Culemborg
This route starts in the center of Culemborg. Originally this place was a trading village, but in 1318 Culemborg received city rights. In the 14th century, a city wall and a moat were built around the city to protect Culemborg against gangs and enemy troops. Part of that city wall can still be found in the city today. This is the oldest surviving city wall in the Netherlands. You will also find many more historic buildings in Culemborg. So be sure to stroll through the streets of this city and admire all the buildings. From Culemborg you can walk straight into the green countryside where you can relax. This route has a perfect balance of nature and beautiful buildings.

Work on the Coil
A little outside Culemborg you walk along the Werk aan het Spoel. This work was built between 1816 and 1824 as part of the New Dutch Waterline. This structure was intended to protect the impeller lock. You will find a bombproof building, a shed, a fort guard house, a fort house and a group shelter. All buildings are well preserved.
