When you walk around in the woods around Rijssen, it seems as if you are no longer in the Netherlands. This area is very similar to the southern German Black Forest with forests, streams, castles and estates. A wonderful environment to wander around in.
The foothills of the Sallandse Heuvelrug
The starting point of this route is in the middle of the woods. The forests around Rijssen are the foothills of De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. This landscape was formed by glaciers 200,000 years ago. Originally the area consisted mainly of dry heathlands and sand drifts. The forests you now find there were planted to keep the sand drifts in check, but they also provide a nice change in this area. Since the twentieth century, hard work has been done to create enough space for the heathlands so that these areas are preserved. The ridge is a special part of the landscape that can be seen from afar.
\\\'t Witte Hoes
At the end of the route you arrive at't Witte Hoes. At this restaurant you can enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner after a walk. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings from the terrace among the trees and be pampered by the hospitable staff.
