When you walk around the forests around Rijssen it seems as if you are no longer in the Netherlands. This area is very similar to the South German Black Forest with forests, streams, castles and manors. A wonderful environment to wander around in.
The foothills of the Sallandse Heuvelrug
The starting point of this route is in the middle of the forests. The forests around Rijssen are the foothills of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. This landscape was formed by glaciers 200,000 years ago. Originally, the area consisted mainly of dry heathlands and sand drifts. The forests that you find there now were planted to keep the sand drifts in check, but they also form a beautiful variation in this area. Since the twentieth century, hard work has been done to give the heathlands enough space, so that these areas are preserved. The ridge is a special part of the landscape that can be seen from far away.
\\\'t White Cover
At the end of the route you will arrive at't Witte Hoes. At this restaurant you can relax after your walk for a cup of coffee, lunch or dinner. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings from the terrace between the trees and let yourself be pampered by the hospitable staff.
