Around the Tjeukemeer, the largest inland lake in Friesland, you will find countless typical Frisian pictures in a flat polder landscape. Enjoy the tranquility along the water and the panoramic views of both the Tjeukemeer and the rest of the landscape. A bike ride in this area is so relaxing.
Flat polders and water
The starting point of this route is in the town of Vierhuis. From here you cycle to Rotstergaast through the polders. Along the way you will see gullies, canals and small pools of water that attract many birds. Furthermore, you will mainly find peace and space here. So this is the perfect environment to relax. Rotstergaast is a small village that used to be inhabited by fishermen who sailed the Tjonger. Now mainly farmers live in the village. On a hill you will find the cemetery of Rotstergaast with a typical Frisian belfry. Other places you cycle through are Munnekeburen and Langelille.
