Tour Krommerij 12: Utrecht

Along the Kromme Rijn you can take a 29 km walk from Wijk bij Duurstede to Utrecht, which largely follows the towpath along the river. That is a tough walk. But you can also divide the entire route into stages and make circular walks. This is the twelfth and final circular walk. The first starts in Wijk bij Duurstede. The last starts in Utrecht at the end of the last bend in the Kromme Rijn at the Moestuin on the Laan van Maarschalkerweerd. The city is visibly close, yet the first part of the towpath feels like you are walking in the middle of nature. In the spring you walk between the tall cow parsley and in the forest to your left you can hear the bird choir. You walk between the Lunetten, part of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterweg. After the Kromme Rijn park there is no more room for nature-friendly banks, but thanks to an initiative by residents there are plenty of wild flowers blooming along the bank. From the end point of the Kromme Rijn at the Ledig Erf you walk on exclusively footpaths through a piece of historic Utrecht. Via Lunet I and Lunet II you come back to the Kromme Rijn and end along the right or left bank at the starting point.
