Through the Reestdal and the Takkenhoogte-Meeuwenveen

The Reestdal is a varied landscape with forests, heathlands and hay fields with attractive old farms in between. The Reest river meanders straight through this landscape. This route takes you through this nature reserve and through the adjacent Takkenhoogte-Meeuwenveen. The starting point of this route is in the middle of the Reestdal. The river that runs through this area can flow freely and that also explains why the river meanders back and forth. In the Meeuwenveen you will find fens with swamp areas around them. In some places you will find typical peat vegetation such as sundew and peat moss. On this route you will feel like you are in another world, because the 'civilized world' is very far away here. The only village near the route is Balkbrug.
