Cycling around Weeze airport

The Netherlands may be a real cycling country, but you can also enjoy cycling in Germany. Cross the border a bit and get to know nature and the cozy towns and villages of our eastern neighbours. This route takes you through the Weeze area.

Spotting planes
You get on your bike on the edge of Weeze. This city is mainly known for the airport that can be found here and has been used since 2003. This route takes you past the airport and the nature reserves that surround it. The ideal location for plane spotting. The airfield used to belong to the British and it was used by the British occupation forces and later by the RAF. There used to be mainly dense forests in the area, but these are slowly being transformed into varied areas including sandy soils and wet fens along which you can enjoy cycling.

Dick's Waldhaus
The start and end point of this route is at Dicks Waldhaus. Here you can be pampered by the hospitable staff. Enjoy typical German dishes with potatoes and lots of meat and recover from your bike ride. A short break with a cup of coffee is of course also possible at Dicks Waldhaus.

The city of Weeze
The city of Weeze suffered greatly during the Second World War. The city was largely rebuilt between 1950 and 1970. Weeze therefore does not have a historic center, but rather a compact and modern center. You can shop well here or settle down on one of the terraces or in one of the restaurants in the center for real German food.
