National Park De Maasduinen crosses the German border into the vast Lower Rhine landscape. Don't let the border stop you and explore this area by bike. On the way you pass the city of Kevelaer.

National Park De Maasduinen

The starting point of this route is in a small German village called Twisteden. From here you cycle in the direction of the Dutch border. Close to Twisteden you cycle through the Traberpark Den Heyberg. There used to be a weapons depot here that was built in the 80s. The bunkers and the surrounding landscape are now used as a recreational area. As soon as you cross the border you will end up in De Maasduinen National Park. Here you will find the longest river dune belt in the Netherlands. Cranes migrate over this area in spring and autumn and they also regularly settle here. If you're lucky you'll spot a few.

Gaststatte and Pension Peters

From the Netherlands you cycle via the towns of Siebengewald, Weeze and Kevelaer back to the starting point at Gaststätte und Pension Peters. Plop down at the restaurant to relax with a delicious meal and a drink. Would you like to explore the area further the next day? Then book a room in the guest house and explore route 401929 the day after.
