Cross-border nature around De Maasduinen

De Maasduinen National Park crosses the German border into the vast Lower Rhine landscape. Don't let the border stop you and explore this area by bike. Along the way you will visit the city of Kevelaer.

De Maasduinen National Park
The starting point of this route is in a small German village called Twisteden. From here you cycle towards the Dutch border. Near Twisteden you cycle through the Traberpark Den Heyberg. There used to be a weapons depot here that was built in the 1980s. The bunkers and the surrounding landscape are now used as a recreational area. As soon as you cross the border you end up in De Maasduinen National Park. Here you will find the longest river dune belt in the whole of the Netherlands. Cranes migrate over this area in spring and autumn and they also regularly settle here. If you're successful, you'll spot a few.
