Cross the border from Central Limburg to Germany and before you know it you will find yourself in the most beautiful nature reserves. On this route you will find a nice variation of beautiful German nature reserves and cozy Limburg towns.
Beautiful German nature
The starting point of this route is in Vlodrop. From here you cycle past the Vlodroppermolen, a water mill, and before you know it you are already crossing the German border. You cycle a bit through the vast nature reserve of the Helpensteinerbachtal, the Schaagbachtal and Petersholz. Then you cycle on to the German city of Heinsberg, the westernmost city in all of Germany. This city was probably already inhabited in the first century AD. Graves and coins from this period were found during excavations here.

The Vlodroppermolen is a water mill along the Rothenbach. This mill was built in 1834 as a corn and oil mill. In 1879, this mill burned down completely. Only the corn mill was rebuilt as a turbine mill. Afterwards, the mill got an electric motor. The mill was in operation until 1974. The mill is not open to the public, but you can of course admire the Vlodroppermolen from the outside when you cycle past it.
