Description
Cross the border from Central Limburg to Germany and before you know it you will end up in the most beautiful nature reserves. On this route you will find a nice variety of beautiful German nature reserves and charming Limburg towns.
Beautiful German nature
The starting point of this route is in Vlodrop. From here you cycle past the Vlodroppermolen, a water mill, and before you know it you are crossing the German border. You cycle a bit through the extensive nature reserve of the Helpensteinerbachtal, the Schaagbachtal and Petersholz. You then cycle to the German city of Heinsberg, the westernmost city in all of Germany. This city was probably already inhabited in the first century AD. Graves and coins from this period have been found here during excavations.

The Vlodropper Mill
The Vlodroppermolen is a watermill along the Rothenbach. This mill was built in 1834 as a corn and oil mill. In 1879 this mill burned down completely. Only the flour mill was then rebuilt as a turbine mill. Afterwards the mill was fitted with an electric motor. The mill was in operation until 1974. The mill is not open to the public, but you can of course admire the Vlodropper mill from the outside when you cycle past it.
