Walking through the Chaamse Bossen

First have a cup of coffee at De Steengraven and then put on your walking shoes. Your route takes you through the Chaamse Bossen. The area you walk through once consisted of sand drifts, wet heathland and fens. Between 1900 and 1934, much of the heathland was planted with Scots pine and wet areas were converted into grassland. At the beginning of the 21st century, many old agricultural areas were restored to their former state, making the area wetter again. The original fens were also excavated again, creating new swamp areas. Due to these developments, you can now find more animals and plants in the Chaamse Bossen, including all kinds of birds and salamanders. You walk back straight through Chaam and the hamlets of Dassemus and Kalishoek.
