The Groote Heide and the Stabrechtse Heide

Under the smoke of Eindhoven you will find beautiful nature reserves and cozy Brabant towns. This route takes you through Heeze, Asten and the extensive nature reserves in the area.

Endless moors
De Groote Heide is the starting point of this route. This heath was once large, as the name suggests. Today, however, little remains of the Groote Heide. A large part of the heaths have changed into forest areas. Just past Heeze you cycle through a large heathland: the Stabrechtse Heide. Here you will find seemingly endless fields of heather and heathland and fens. You cycle along the Beuven, the largest fen in the Netherlands. Around the fens you will find special vegetation such as the water spoon and the carnivorous sundew. This area is also very popular with dragonflies, moor frogs and natterjack toads.

Castle Heeze
From Heeze you can briefly deviate from the route to visit Heeze Castle. This is one of the last inhabited castles in the Netherlands. The castle consists of a medieval part, remains of the old castle Eymerick and a part that was built in 1665 by the famous architect Pieter Post. Today only part of the castle is inhabited. You can visit the other parts of the castle.
