Cycling route: 4012614

Your route starts at Parkhotel Tjaarda, where you can first enjoy a cup of coffee at Grand Cafe 1834. Today you will make a nice round around the Tjeukemeer, via Joure you cycle back. From the Gemaal van Echten on the south bank of the Tjeukemeer you have a beautiful view over the entire Tjeukemeer. The pumping station was built in 1913 to drain the large Veenpolder of Echten. At the pumping station is the statue of the women Tsjuke and March. According to tradition, the Tjeukemeer (Tsjukemar in Frisian) owes its name to them. Joure is known as the Frisian town where Egbert Douwes started a shop in 1753 selling colonial goods such as coffee. A pleasant town, definitely take a break here!
