Tour of Tsjonger and Tjeukemeer

Your route starts at Parkhotel Tjaarda, where you first enjoy a cup of coffee at Grand Café 1834. You first cycle for a while along the leafy banks of the Tjonger. This river forms the language border between Frisian and Low Saxon, which is spoken south of the Kuunder (as the Tjonger is called in Low Saxon). In the Tjongervallei you can see the old peat landscape with patches of wasteland, such as heathlands. Together with the small forest plots, watercourses and hedgerows and canals, they give the area an unprecedented charm. From the banks of the Tjeukemeer you will soon have a beautiful view of the largest inland lake in Friesland. You will see many pleasure yachts or skûtsjes passing by here. You cycle back via Heerenveen and Museum Belvédère.
