Botanical route through Leiden and surroundings

Do you like trees, plants and flowers? Then this route is tailor-made for you, because it takes you past some special gardens and through beautiful nature reserves. For example, you pass the Valkenburgse Meer, a recreational lake that was created in the 1950s by sand extraction. Further afield you can visit the Royal Estates De Horsten. The route then takes you through some beautiful country estates around Wassenaar. In Park Clingendael you can view the Japanese Garden, after which you cycle through Meijendel. In this dune area you can enjoy the fresh air and the silence. You cycle back towards Leiden along the Oude Rijn. You take a trip to Park de Houtkamp, after which this green route ends in style at the Hortus botanicus Leiden.
