Cycling through Westerwolde in Groningen

Westerwolde is a region with a typical Groningen esdorp landscape. You will find fields on high sand ridges and vast open areas. This route takes you past various regional villages that lie on the border of the sandy soils of the Westerwolde and the clay of the Dollardpolders. Get on your bike on the edge of Wedderveer and cycle in the direction of Bellingwolde. Along the way you will pass windmill de Korenbloem, a corn mill that was built here in 1895. A little further on you cycle through Blauwestad, a new village located on the Oldambtmeer. Around this village you will find 350 hectares of newly created nature reserves. You will eventually return to Wedderveer at Paviljoen & Villapark Weddermeer. Here you can have a bite to eat and a drink, but you can also rent a villa to spend the night.
