Georoute mine path Hohburg Walking route

The Hohburg Mountains were formed about 290 million years ago by volcanic activity. During the ice age, the quartz porphyry rocks were formed into elongated mounds by the ice masses. This is evidenced by glacial abrasions still visible today on the Kleiner Berg. The signposted Georoute Hohburg Mijnbouwweg starts at the Steinarbeiterhaus Museum and leads along beautiful forest paths past the disused Löbenberg quarry and the partially active Zinkenberg quarry. Information boards along the route and waypoint descriptions provide information about the formation of the quartz-porphyry rock and the history of the quarry. In good weather, the ski meadow offers an impressive view of the Wurzener Land.
