Tour of Lettele and Oostermaet Estate

Your route starts at Restaurant BRAS-KOER. From there you walk through the Slenk, a newly developed nature reserve on the Oostermaat estate. Here you will encounter many height differences. The depression between two sand ridges used to be often flooded in winter. It was used as a hay field for centuries, until 1900. Then it grew densely with birch, alder and American bird cherry. De Oostermaet is an estate where you can enjoy a lovely walk through the forest with its many rhododendrons. The large hunting lodge was built in 1907 by Abraham Capadose, the president of Koninklijke Olie (the predecessor of Shell). During the Second World War, the Germans fired V1 rockets from the estate. The remains of the launch pad have been made visible along the Oerdijk, near the Klinkenweg. Take a look at the information board!
