Walking along the Kromme Mijdrecht

The Kromme Mijdrecht flows through the low-lying polder landscape on the border of Utrecht and South Holland. This walking route takes you for miles over the dike along the rippling water, the Groene Jonker and the Nieuwkoopse Plassen.

Nieuwkoopse Plassen
The Nieuwkoopse Plassen are one of the last extensive low peat areas that the Netherlands once had. You will find swamps, but also hay fields, flowery meadows and reed fields. A nice, rugged area in the Netherlands, which is so tightly cultivated. De Groene Jonker is also special. This relatively young nature reserve consists of a large lake, rustling reed collars and wet grasslands. With binoculars you can spot birds such as black-winged stilts, lapwings and spoonbills.

Woerdense Leave
While walking you will see some old characteristic farms in the landscape. The Woerdense Verlaat neighborhood was built near the lock in the Grecht, which was built in 1448. Here you will see the Westveense Mill, a polder mill from 1676. In De Hoef you can admire the monumental Anthony of Padua, a church from 1921.
